EMV Chip-Enhanced Cards
Your Credit Union will be implementing "chip card" technology for our VISA Credit and Debit Cards. You probaby have heard about chip cards (also called Smart Cards) lately, especially the vast improvement in security they offer. The new chip cards reflect a shift from magnetic-stripe credit cards to chip & PIN cards. The chip based cards require insertion of the card into a terminal throughout the entire transaction. The new chip card will still have a magnetic strip on the card to ensure you can purchase at terminals who have not upgraded. This new technology is being implemented to reduce the amount of in person, card present fraudulent activity. We will be reissuing new Visa Credit and Debit cards in the first half of 2016.
PEFCU has always been a leader in adapting technology that can make your banking experience faster, safer, and more convenient. So, it should come as no surprise that we are issuring replacement Credit and Debit Cards with an EMV micro-chip.
